Our trip to Africa was a grand adventure. We were on Safari in Tanzania and Zanzibar. We started at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Here are ten highlights of the trip:
1. In chartered planes and Land Rovers, we followed the great migration of Wildebeest & Zebra on the Serengeti Plain.
2. We rode hot air balloons over the Seranera River. (Hippos, crocodiles, lions, giraffes and elephants).
3. We stayed in wonderful tented camps and old coffee plantations refurbished as five star accommodations.
4. We safaried into the Ngorongoro Crater where we added to our list: Rhinos, Cheetah, Leopard, Baboons, Warthogs & several other species. The lake in the crater was a shimmering pink glow of hundreds of thousands of Flamingos.
5. We visited the mud hut villages of the Masai. They entertained us with song and dance and we got out the guitars and accordion and gave them a performance. A great cultural interchange.
6. We received a magnificent lecture from Steve Majewski about the unique view of the heavens that one gets from the equator. He brought along a telescope to show us galaxies and star clouds that cannot be seen from the northern hemisphere.
7. We performed music for a tribal school and orphanage. Georgia, Janelle and Carolyn had prepared a song in Swahili. It opened hearts at every stop of the safari. Music has a way of breaking barriers. We didn’t just meet people, we made friends.
8. We flew to Zanzibar where we stayed in thatched cottages on the beach of the Indian Ocean.
9. We toured the spice markets and ancient churches & mosques of old Zanzibar Town.
10. We enjoyed each other’s company and the hospitality of an amazingly friendly and welcoming people. We ate & drank well and returned enriched by the experience.
